about

A couple of years I caught Eric Hewitt conducting Kurt Weill's "Concerto, opus 12" for violin and wind orchestra, plus 4 double basses.  Markus Placci was the soloist.  I was so impressed by the work that I told Eric and Markus I want to write a similar work for them.

The end result is my "Concertino per Violino e Sedici Strumenti."

Kurt Weill's version has the following instruments.

2 flutes
1 oboe
2 clarinets
2 bassoons
2 horns
1 trumpet
timpani
3 percussions
4 double basses

Mine is a bit different:

1 flute, doubling on piccolo
1 oboe
2 clarinets
2 bassoons
2 trumpets
2 horns
2 trombones
Timpani
Percussion (snare drum, 2 triangles)
2 double basses

Concertino is in three movements.

1. Moderato, TRIO
2. Adagio
3. Vivace, TRIO
