1.
Ia. Labor of Extremities Of velvet and brocade  Calloused, glimmer cream Years of texture over-layed Crematory, turns to steam  Waste resides under scales Grotesque until clean Fates not to be tossed like bales  Of hay, which all do screen Gradual evolution  Ib. Twilight Verano The smell of must  Fresh water flow Company will never go Under the season's lust  Sunsets fly  Grease comes through Tastes of heat, a clue Aware that the eve will soon die Insects and humidity Boundless is the joy Force ones to shed their being coy Breathe the air with profound lucidity
2.
Haiku 01 00:28
Turquoise waters froth Greeneries flourish so  From the deck, life bursts.
3.
Agriebb 03:28
II. Agriebb No longer able  To toil around  The grounds I love  Smells of grains  Now only a fragrance  On the few clothes  I have left Feeling unwanted  By everyone else Is painful People's wallets showing  As much  As their hearts  To see what we endure And now the future we face Wrinkles of pain and sadness Would surely form  Giving and not receiving  The downfall of a profession Hands calloused and blood-crusted Now clutching a bowl of modest stew
4.
Haiku 02 00:21
Mirrored waters here In the distance, a sharp peak A temple remains.
5.
The Troubles 03:10
III. The Troubles Northern Ireland, to remain or to join Confederates in the Union fighting to break free Tensions as rough as biting into a coin Visions of separate territory and ideology America’s war ensued for four long years, Northern Ireland’s for thirty Polarized combatants all wanting to win Plans of action and political sides relatively sturdy Look into the eyes of the loser with a solemn grin Once the disputes were over, rebuilding started  A multiple-powered government, rights for past slaves But in both cases, the peaceful attempts soon parted Concrete walls and segregation looming till people fell into their graves No warring, but violence and isolation insist to stay From schools to neighborhoods: no mingling, no going astray.
6.
Haiku 03 00:23
Overcast and damp Still air over the sodden Stagnantness lives on.
7.
IV. For a Friend ... While in purple promenading, to soak in the studio sun Eyes like those of does, mirroring what lie In an organ of words, scenes, things not yet begun Away from the disorder, although hard, you must pry  Self-proclaimed romantic, an open figure too A sense of help so gracious, to guide others along to succeed Just don't become so obliged to perform your part as glue With self-care and direction, you can strengthen such a lead While overlooking your pain, remember your potential for more Over struggles your mind must crane; expose yourself, your inner core Allow yourself to release the utmost doom, an individual your age can allow Post such a point your mind can bloom; through tough times you will plough To have known you this time I appreciate and smile You say it like it is, why not continue for a while?
8.
Haiku 04 00:27
Haze, humidity Bright flowers emerge with ease  All is calm, no breeze.
9.
V. What Shall I Do? Look into my coffee cup, a long-awaited mystery My life a race-car track, has started to feel blistery Submit to the traces of order and go Take time to do the things I want Positive, events free or full of flaunt When not on display, choice resides Wake up when the sun shines Read while the bell chimes Ponder longer than one should to challenge the internal timer  Oh! But what can lay here However close one may hold them dear Relying on open space takes an organizer Trample old collections Of internal misconceptions And follow the fresh path, paved with special bias

about

I met Sarah Kalkert (SKK) in ballet class with her mother Julie. The three of us often shared the same barre. Sarah is home-schooled and aside from being an avid ballet student she is also a voracious reader. When she told me she wrote poetry I asked her to share some with me. Well, I found her to be a fine and inspired poet. This is a song cycle of five of her poems and interspersed between each song are four of her haikus.
