E alle cinque questo signore è venuto col Lantz. Un lanternone con gli occhiali e tutta la faccia mangiata dal salso, su un collo stralungo. Si chiama dottor Tempel. È musico e architetto. Lo crederesti? Ha già preparato per il Ton-film quattro Sinfonie di Beethoven e due Notturni di Chopin. La mia idea, già attuata; il mio segreto!

Ora la via è aperta, e non so che altro mi resta da fare. Ho difeso, davanti al Lantz e davanti al Philips la priorità della mia concezione; ma non c'è purtroppo da far nulla contro lo sfruttamento che ne farà con pieno diritto questo signore Tempel, che non può certo essere accusato d'avermi rubato l'idea. Mi resta la consolazione che come potrò farla io un'interpretazione di Beethoven e di Chopin non potrà certo farla lui; ma intanto il merito dell'invenzione e del primo tentativo se lo prenderà lui.

At five this gentleman arrived with Lantz. A fellow with big glasses and a face like a pickle, and a very long neck. His name is Dr. Tempel. He is a musician and an architect. Can you believe it? He has already prepared for Tonfilm four Symphonies of Beethoven and two Nocturnes of Chopin. My idea, already realized; my secret!

Now the cat is out of the bag, and I don’t know what I can do about it. I told Lantz and Philips that I had the idea first; but unfortunately there is nothing I can do to stop this Tempel—-who cannot be accused of stealing the idea—-from using it, and rightly so. Only the consolation remains that the way I’d be able to do an interpretation of Beethoven and of Chopin he certainly will not be able to do; but in the meantime he will get the credit for the invention and of the first application of it.
