III. The Troubles

Northern Ireland, to remain or to join
Confederates in the Union fighting to break free
Tensions as rough as biting into a coin
Visions of separate territory and ideology
America’s war ensued for four long years,
Northern Ireland’s for thirty
Polarized combatants all wanting to win
Plans of action and political sides relatively sturdy
Look into the eyes of the loser with a solemn grin
Once the disputes were over, rebuilding started
A multiple-powered government, rights for past slaves
But in both cases, the peaceful attempts soon parted
Concrete walls and segregation looming till people fell into their graves
No warring, but violence and isolation insist to stay
From schools to neighborhoods: no mingling, no going astray.
